Helge Aarrestad

Born at a farm in a small place called Kviteseid, Norway 1949. After finishing high school, Skien Telemark, I went to Stockholm to be educated as a professional photographer at Christer Strømholm FOTOSKOLAN from 1970-73. Had read about Norway finding the first oil well in the North Sea 1969, so I got a job as a floor man/roughneck at a drilling platform called Ekofisk Bravo 1973. Continued drilling for oil at a Norwegian island , Andøya northern Norway, and a place called Sarstangen, Svalbard Norway 1975-76. Published a book with pictures from the oil drilling at Ekofisk in 1977, called Oljearbeidarar (Oil workers) , Grøndahl Norway.
Filmschool at Norwegian Broadcasting Company 1978-80. Made my first TV-drama, called "Du har ingen sjans. Ta'n." ( "You have no chance. Take it.") , together with Jarl Emsell Larsen and Ulf Breistrand. Published at NRK 1984. This was a film about the first punks in Norway. Got a winning award at RAI, Italy 1985, and we where invited to showe this film in New York at The Museum of Television 1985.
Continued working as a film photographer and editor at Norwegian Broadcasting, making TV- dramas, and the last 20 years I was making international news for NRK.
Got a national winning award for best news from Kosovo 1999 together with
Åsne Seierstad. Now an international known novellist.
